Intro: (C) (C) (C) My father died (G) a year ago today. The (Am) rooster started (Am/G) crowing when they (F) carried Dad away. (C) There beside my mother, in the (Am) living room, I stood, With my (Dm7) brothers and my sister, knowing (G) Dad was gone for good. Well, (C) I hung around just long enough, (G) To lay him in the ground and then I, (Am) Caught a plane to (Am/G) do a show up (F) north in Detroit town. Because I'm (C) older now (G) and I ain't got no time to (C) cry. I've (F) got no time to look back, I've (G) got no time to see, The (C) pieces of my heart that have (F) been ripped away from me. And if the (Am) feeling starts to coming, I've (F) learned to stop 'em fast. `Cause (Dm7) I don't know, if I let 'em go, they (G) might not wanna pass. And there's just (C) so many people (G) trying to get me on the phone. And there's (Am) bills to pay, and (Am/G) songs to play, And a (F) house to make a home. I guess I'm (C) older now (G) and I ain't got no time to (C) cry. (C) I can still remember (G) before I heard of Merle. So (Am) many things have (Am/G) changed so (F) much here in my world. I remember (C) sitting on the front porch when an (Am) ambulance went by, And just (Dm7) listening to those sirens I would (G) breakdown and cry. But now I'm (C) walking and I'm talking, Doing just (G) what I'm supposed to do. (Am) Working over(Am/G)time to make sure (F) I don't come unglued. I guess I'm (C) older now and (G) I ain't got no time to cry. __KEY CHANGE__ Now I (D) sit down on the sofa and I (A) watch the evening news: There's a (Bm) half a dozen (Bm/A) tragedies (G) from which to pick and choose. The (D) baby that was missing was (A) found in a ditch today. And there's (Em7) bombs a'flying and people dying (A) not so far away. And I'll take a (D) beer from the 'fridgerator, And go (A) sit out in the yard and with a (Bm) cold one in my (Bm/A) hand, I'm gonna bite (G) down and swallow hard. Because I'm (D) older now (A) I ain't got no time to (Bm) cry. It's true... I guess I'm (D) older now (A) and I ain't got no time to (D) cry.
